Little Joey (NaPoWriMo #22)

Little Joey Jimble,
Lost his mother’s thimble.
His soldier was wearing it as a hat.

Being a polite and sorry chap,
He found an acorn cap,
That fit to do the job, just like that.

My attempt at writing a nursery rhyme, as a poem for children. Growing up I loved reading Mother Goose, and still have songs in my head from an audio sing-along tape I listened to all the time. Sometimes they didn’t make much sense but the rhymes are charming and so are the names! And there’s something about thimbles that make them collectible, I never really use one, but the designs can be so creative. Acorn caps are very cute too, I mean look!

Funny with a pinch of truth

After returning from a farmer’s market, my mother started telling us about a family obstacle course event that was being promoted there. It was a fundraiser to help kids suffering with addiction. The listeners nodded their heads, but most eagerly did the littlest sister, who with eyes bright with understanding said, “Ohhh, like to video games and computers right?”

I want my childhood back. And yet there’s something so true and foreboding in that innocent remark. It’s a good family car moment I want to remember.

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” -Aboriginal proverb (NaPoWriMo #22)

baby!

Take care of our planet
For all its little creatures
We owe them the experience
Of exploring Earth’s natural features
Like blizzards, rainforests, coral reefs
Oceans and skies of bright blue
Take care for everyone who shares this planet
Especially for those who must one day be stewards too.

——————————————————————————

I know this one’s cliche, but I love our planet so this butterfly and rainbow thoughts just spew out. Happy Earth Day!

Droopy eyelids
Slip from mental glue
And sink into a thick soup
Of slumber.

It’s been another tiring day. The past two entries for NaPoWriMo have been minimalist, I really hope to get back to full posts this week (and that this pug made up for my dull poem today).

“I am not young enough to know everything.” -Oscar Wilde

Who doesn’t have a case of peterpantitis in one form or another?

I have fond memories of my childhood and can only wish to revisit that time when life was so carefree and the meaning of it so clear because we simply enjoyed every minute of it. Why I believe it is worthwhile for parents to protect a child’s innocence much as they can, especially in today’s society.

Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone…
