5 years later… hello world!

My last post was from November 2015. How things have developed since then. Between graduating from two universities, accompanied by two career changes, and the global pandemonium that is currently affecting all of us – a lot has changed.

It has taken me a while to gather the desire and motivation to read or write again after being stuck in textbooks and scientific papers during my most recent degree. Since my last post I have transitioned from professional ballet dancer, to brain scientist, to dance teacher and choreographer. I have updated my About page in case you were wondering how this happened.

This past year especially has been a lesson in patience and adaptability. It has been and is a waiting game for things to become normal, if that normal can even exist again. Nothing is guaranteed but change, and that has really affected the way I think about my life plans and goals. I have decided to restart publishing on this blog because 1) life is apparently too interesting to not document (in general, not during lockdown right now), 2) it gives me the selfish benefits of organizing and saving my thoughts, and 3) if by any chance my words here can add to someone’s life in any way, then why not! (And if not, then there is somehow a weird comfort in sending these words out into space anyway.)

And so, hello world!

Exam Bound

Crunch time! (Original content)

Crunch time! (Original content)

bound (adj) 1. Heading toward somewhere 2. Restricted or confined to a specific place

The end of the year is speeding along and I am feeling exhausted. It has been a marathon for the past few months with the dance festival, spring performance, and now final recital and academic exams. We get a free weekend without class, except there is a LOT to do: science reviews specifically, culminating assignments, procrastinated stuff, and extra credits squeezed in, hopefully. Our grade is in charge of an annual flower sale by tradition and many of us are catching summer colds due to bipolar weather of heavy rain (once pouring enough to collapse our church’s roof) and summer sun (we’re talking shorts and tank top weather here). It is also a personal tradition of mine to create handmade cards for my teachers, and I hope to continue it. Now I completely understand the phrase, “Time flies.”

So this is basically my excuse for my absence on WordPress; my “Drafts” category is growing drastically to the point that I doubt I could complete all these ideas in the summer. In the meantime, let’s get cracking on the notes fellow students (those of you unlucky enough to be on the same pace as my irregular school) , and exams here we come!

What Now?

I haven’t been writing much since the end of NaPoWriMo and to be quite honest with you, I don’t know the answer to this question myself. What I do know is that I cannot wait for summer and that I hope to continue writing in at least these ways:

1. Living up to my name
Posts regarding ballet as an art form, experiences of a dancer, and book reviews will return. An amazing week of a dance festival with 18 different ballet schools has left me inspired, and I am also working on reviews for two graphic novels as well as a funny biography.

2. Scholarly Series
Works I’ve written over the past few years in high school will be shared for anyone in the midst of studying Shakespeare, Lord of the Flies, Paradise Lost, literary devices, and things of that sort. Oh, and I just love the word scholar. I thought it a better replacement for the word ‘school’ or ‘student’.

3. A Big Awards Extravaganza!
It is exactly what it sounds like. Just to give you an idea of just how big, it will take at least 4 parts to be completed. I think it is only fair to share the support and generosity that I’ve received; I have many to thank and spotlight, so stay tuned!

4. Life is unexpectedly surprising
Since starting, I’ve realized that I am inspired to write about everyday occurrences and random thoughts as much as from dancing and reading. Each day can be wonderful, stressful, exhilarating, or serene, and I want to capture some of these moments. So some personal stuff will be scattered around. And yes, that heading title was repetitive.

5. Creativity continues
As I’ve said, my first NaPoWriMo was a lot of fun and I will be writing poems, though inconsistently. I love writing short stories but due to limited time, poems are often a more efficient and equally expressive choice. Creative writing is my favourite kind of writing, and I want to do more of it in the near future.

So as I’m rummaging through a box of themes and ideas, I thank you for your interest and patience in the meanderings of this blog. I know the closer we get to the end of the school year, the busier I will be, but I’ll do my best to write a post every few days.

For me? Oh boy! (My first awards)

After being absent for a week or so, I happily logged on with an itch to write something, anything, one of the things filling up my thoughts; only to find in surprise that I had gotten my very first award! And not for the most inconsistent or all-over-the-place blogger like I expected would be the only title I could deserve at the moment.

Thank you to my friend at greenembers.wordpress.com for nominating me for the Liebster Award and the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I am honoured and will do my best to live up to it. Little did I know how long a process this post would have… but here we go!

As per requirement, here are 11 random facts about moi:
1. I love earmuffs almost as much as scarves.
2. I set my alarm at least a half an hour early in the morning so I can press sleep a couple of times.
3. I buy $100 pointe shoes that last about a week because I love dancing.
4. My parents let me buy the above because they love me.
5. I enjoy car naps.
6. Some of my favourite things to watch are Planet Earth, The Big Bang Theory, Nostalgia Critic, The nature of Things, Dragon’s Den, and Arthur.
7. I own an Acer Aspire One notebook laptop.
8. They say don’t judge a book by its cover but sometimes I do.
9. HARRY POTTER not Twilight.
10. I think it’s funny that people so love to talk about themselves as to make this a rule to receive this award.
11. I am currently studying Stoichiometry in chemistry.

And these are my answers to the questions that have been bestowed unto me:
1. What is the best way to spend one dollar (or currency equivalent)?
A forgotten gem at a used book sale.
2. What is your biggest pet peeve?
The sound of velcro hooks being ripped from the loops. Oh, and people reading over my shoulder.
3. What is your happy thought that makes you fly?
I am alive with a fully functioning body.
4. Who is your favorite Doctor?
Doctor Who? I don’t know, maybe my orthodontist.
5. If you could be one super hero, who would you be and why?
Superman because he can fly.
6. The question is this: Given that God is infinite, and that the universe is also infinite… would you like a toasted teacake?
Of course, who has time to ponder about such things when there are teacakes?
7. What is your quest?
To figure out who I am. And save the world from global warming.
8. What is your favorite color?
All colours! If you must, green.
9. What… is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Faster than a laden swallow.
10. What is your favorite sport?
Ballet. If I wasn’t a dancer, probably swimming. Or basketball.
11. Who is your hero and why?
Hmm… my parents because they moved to a whole new continent on the opposite side of the globe for their family’s future.

The rules of the Liebster Award:

liebster1. Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog and link back to the blogger who presented this award to you.

11. What is your most recent goal in the journey of life?

The rules for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award:

1. Copy and place the award in your post.
2. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
3. Tell 7 things about yourself.
4. Nominate 10 bloggers for the award, tell them by posting a comment on their blog.

Because I do not have much time and do not want to feel obnoxious, the 7 things about myself are just going to be counted in with the 11 I already wrote.

My nominees for the Inspiring:
1. http://lesplaisirssimplesdelavie.wordpress.com/
2. http://thewisdomoflife.wordpress.com/
3. http://thebottomofabottle.wordpress.com/

7. http://timpanogos.wordpress.com/
8. http://anotherwanderingsoul.wordpress.com
9.http://meganhasocd.com/
10. http://hikingphoto.com/

Because I don’t want to spam people as I understand not all participate in these awards, I won’t be commenting on every nominated blog. I am also feeling tired and lazy so I might get around to doing it anyway at some point.

And because WordPress is full of such wonderful people, check out these blogs as well if you have time:

A note: Lost and not found, yet.

As I was browsing through my blog (you know you’ve self-stalked too), I realize my topics have transformed to alien species of posts I never imagined I had the ability nor desire to write. My thoughts have been meandering beyond just ballet and books; I’m finding myself more entangled in them than I should. Thank you for bearing with me on my exploration to finding the identity of this blog.

Hello world!

So, first blog post.

As we all know, life can be very busy and when you’re young there are many thoughts, both relevant and foolish, whirling around your head constantly. Sometimes there are too many of these floating tidbits to contain in your brain so this is where they go.

I have nil experience in blogging so I do hope this does not turn out too boring and that I will defeat the not-finish-what-you-started bug with this adventure.

If somehow you have managed to find this, my first ever post, please feel free to eat a chocolate as my thanks for visiting!
