Walking Around the House (NaPoWriMo #20)

image

The dilemnas of being woman of the house from the comic "For Better or for Worse" by Lynn Johnston. Sourced by Yahoo!News

Oh these breakfast plate piles seem higher each day.
At least the sun is out though.
First, into the washer the clothes must go –
And I must remember to set an official date for the girls to play.

These plants look awfully dry – where is that watering can?
And that piano counter is getting dusty,
About the kids’ chores I need be more fussy.

The recital is coming up soon, time to start writing a plan.
Hope the students can count to four,
Remember a couple of steps and more.
That’s the thing with teaching toddlers, you never know where they stand.

There’s baseball at four and piano at seven,
In between I’ll buy groceries for that casserole –
How did this sweater end up with a hole?
Husband will like some potato chips, I reckon.

So many emails, this is why I don’t like cell phones
It becomes rude to not answer instantly
But how can you when messages stream in incessantly –
And this bank won’t stop preaching on the benefits of loans.

Oh no someone forgot their lunch, we should really wake them up earlier.
I think he is fine, he has pocket money,
And for his bee project he brought that jar of honey.
Aww this flyer has cute clothes, but for the little one’s taste might be girlier.
Still, I better check on hi-

Hello? It’s me speaking. May I know who the caller is?
I’m late for an appointment for a manicure?
It was a deal with a complimentary pedicure?
Now how did I forget, what a little thing to miss.

The prompt was to write in a family member’s voice and I picked mother. She is the invisible organizer and ultimate carer of everything while we are at school, and I’m sure always has a million thoughts in her head at a time. And mothers are always thinking of everyone but herself. My father (who will likely read this) is great and has many subtle tasks of his own, but we’ll save that for the next occasion…

To Mother

Because her honest advice and singing laughter is the best thing you’ve ever heard.
Because she brought warm tea to bed when you were paralyzed with flu.
Because she knows what’s in your heart, though you say not a single word.
Because she stands beside, sword in hand, when the world has turned against you.
Because she always thinks of everyone before herself.
Because without anyone noticing, she tidies counter, closet, shelf.
Because she’s a guardian angel day after day
We say I LOVE YOU in the earnest possible way.

My mom’s favourite kind of flower.

And for smiles:

calvin and hobbes – mothers day card

Comic by none other than Bill Watterson

———————————————————————————————————————-
Personally, I had always thought it silly that “Mother’s Day” was a celebration. Shouldn’t we treat the people who have devoted their time to nurturing us all our lives be treated with full adoration all the time? But I guess a day of extra special treatment is always welcome. I went for brunch with my mom at Cora’s (where she got free Lindt chocolate) and tonight we went for Chinese downtown at King’s Noodles, handmade and fresh, which was really yummy. My sisters attended a church art club and made lovely drawings and bookmarks for her. It was just too bad Mother Nature did not seem in the mood to be appreciated as it was a rather cold, gusty, and rainy day. Nevertheless, there is nothing like a family movie on a Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day to mums everywhere!

Also, today’s Google Doodle was sweet. You can make your own Mother’s Day card through the animation. Here’s the one I made. Very clever idea!

For me? Oh boy! (My first awards)

After being absent for a week or so, I happily logged on with an itch to write something, anything, one of the things filling up my thoughts; only to find in surprise that I had gotten my very first award! And not for the most inconsistent or all-over-the-place blogger like I expected would be the only title I could deserve at the moment.

Thank you to my friend at greenembers.wordpress.com for nominating me for the Liebster Award and the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I am honoured and will do my best to live up to it. Little did I know how long a process this post would have… but here we go!

As per requirement, here are 11 random facts about moi:
1. I love earmuffs almost as much as scarves.
2. I set my alarm at least a half an hour early in the morning so I can press sleep a couple of times.
3. I buy $100 pointe shoes that last about a week because I love dancing.
4. My parents let me buy the above because they love me.
5. I enjoy car naps.
6. Some of my favourite things to watch are Planet Earth, The Big Bang Theory, Nostalgia Critic, The nature of Things, Dragon’s Den, and Arthur.
7. I own an Acer Aspire One notebook laptop.
8. They say don’t judge a book by its cover but sometimes I do.
9. HARRY POTTER not Twilight.
10. I think it’s funny that people so love to talk about themselves as to make this a rule to receive this award.
11. I am currently studying Stoichiometry in chemistry.

And these are my answers to the questions that have been bestowed unto me:
1. What is the best way to spend one dollar (or currency equivalent)?
A forgotten gem at a used book sale.
2. What is your biggest pet peeve?
The sound of velcro hooks being ripped from the loops. Oh, and people reading over my shoulder.
3. What is your happy thought that makes you fly?
I am alive with a fully functioning body.
4. Who is your favorite Doctor?
Doctor Who? I don’t know, maybe my orthodontist.
5. If you could be one super hero, who would you be and why?
Superman because he can fly.
6. The question is this: Given that God is infinite, and that the universe is also infinite… would you like a toasted teacake?
Of course, who has time to ponder about such things when there are teacakes?
7. What is your quest?
To figure out who I am. And save the world from global warming.
8. What is your favorite color?
All colours! If you must, green.
9. What… is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Faster than a laden swallow.
10. What is your favorite sport?
Ballet. If I wasn’t a dancer, probably swimming. Or basketball.
11. Who is your hero and why?
Hmm… my parents because they moved to a whole new continent on the opposite side of the globe for their family’s future.
